Corporate Member Spotlight: LavAzza
One of our newest Corporate members, LavAzza, in part sponsored the June Symposium at Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò because they believe in the necessity of educating American consumers to true and authentic Italian products. LavAzza is emblematic of Italy and takes great pride in their products heritage and image around the world.
In 1895, Luigi LavAzza---the entrepreneur who invented the concept of mixing coffee of different origins together (a coffee blend) to obtain a harmonious, flavorful product--- acquired a small grocery store in the heart of Turin.  For over a century now, LavAzza has been recognized throughout the world as a symbol of Italian espresso and Italian identity. It serves nearly 14 billion cups of coffee each year worldwide in 90 countries. When we talk of LavAzza, we talk of quality (Qualità) from the plantation to the cup. The company holds as a strict and rigorous system of control over it product. “The strength of our experience, the use of the finest raw materials and advanced technological resources has made LavAzza a leader in the industry” echoes Ennio Ranaboldo, the current CEO of LavAzza’s North American Subsidiary.
Mr. Ranaboldo believes strongly in protecting the LavAzza product and reflected those sentiments at the recent GRI Symposium. He stated many Americans have a long way

to go as far as their understanding of Italian customs. The American preferences for sweet coffee drinks served in big plastic cups, makes understanding a properly made espresso and the popularity of cappuccino after lunch and dinner difficult to truly understand.
GRI welcomes LavAzza and looks forward to uniting our visions in activities throughout the year. Look for LavAzza coffee at the Genuinely Italian Lecture Series receptions at Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò.  www.lavazza.com

Smeraldina - www.acquasmeraldina.it

Smeraldina starts its journey in the pristine Limbara region of Mediterranean island of Sardinia, Italy at almost 1000 feet under the Mountain of God, after being naturally filtered for hundreds of years by granite rocks, typical of this area.

Harmony and balance are the main characteristics of Smeraldina Artesian Water. Smeraldina water has a pleasant flavor, thanks to the effect of the granite natural filtration that allows a natural balance of dissolved minerals and gases. As a result, Smeraldina Artesian Water is extremely pure.

Besides its pleasant flavor, the natural filtration and enrichment processes confer to Smeraldina Artesian Water properties that are vital for our body. Smeraldina water is recommended by health experts for its diuretic properties, due to balanced and low levels of minerals (calcium and magnesium). In addition, the high potassium content in Smeraldina promotes well-toned muscles.

Smeraldina pure artesian water comes from an underground aquifer 1000 feet under the Mountain of God (Monte di Deu), part of the large granite rock formation of Mount Limbara located in the north-east region of the island.

For hundreds of years the region has been known for the freshness and purity of its waters

Brand Overview

The Villa has been the Massa family’s summer home since the 1890s. Here, tradition dictated that guests were offered a liqueur made from the fruit of the lemon grove. Brothers Sergio and Stefano Massa founded the Villa Massa company in 1991 with the intention of making this liqueur available to everyone. Today, Villa Massa Limoncello is based on the same family recipe that dates back to 1890.

Liqueur-Making Philosophy

The common denominator for all that Villa Massa does is the love of the good things, which have been passed down from generation to generation. Villa Massa refuses to compromise when it comes to quality. While other limoncello producers use artificial ingredients, Villa Massa maintains the tradition of using only 100% natural ingredients. Villa Massa uses only Sorrento Oval Lemons, which are carefully peeled within 24 hours of harvest. This ensures optimal flavor from the yellow part of the peel, which is rich in essential oils.
