The Wines

The Sassari Province can be divided in two: to the west, Nurra and Logudoro, rich in scenery and history and home to the new and lively Alghero DOC.  The Alghero DOC finds itself among the great traditional productions of Malvasia di Bosa, Cannonau and Vermentino di Sardegna.  To the east you have Gallura and Anglona where the Vermentino di Gallura DOC and DOCG is produced, an exceptional wine counterpart to the world-famous tourism paradise known as Costa Smeralda.

The star of the Sassari province is the Vermentino di Gallura, the only Sardinian wine carrying a DOCG designation.  Originating in Iberia, the vine was most likely imported from Liguria, Italy.

Another vine worth exploring is that of Moscato.  Grown in the Sorso-Sennori zone, Moscato is another wine with the DOC appellation.  Further west, the main production zone is Alghero, with interesting grapes like Torbato and Cagnulari.

On the border with Oristano you find Malvasia di Bosa.  The province is also covered by the Colli del Limbara, Nurra and Romangia vines that carry the IGT appellation.
